Frequently asked questions about company search

How do I find a company by its company ID?
Enter the registration number — the letter and digits, such as C 12345 — or the company name, and press Search. If the entity is on the Malta Business Registry we show its registration number, legal form, status, registered office and recorded line of business.
Can I search by company name?
Yes. Two characters of the registered business name are enough. The search returns every matching company together with its company ID, legal form and address, so you can pick the right one.
Does company search cost anything?
Search and the registration data are free and need no account. Change monitoring and API access will be paid. Nothing is paywalled behind the financial figures either: the accounts here are the audited annual reports that listed issuers publish under the Transparency Directive, and they are free to read. For every other Maltese company the Registry sells the filing per sheet, and this site holds none of those.
Where does the data come from?
The Malta Business Registry, which publishes the whole register as open data under a Creative Commons Attribution licence. Legal Entity Identifiers come from GLEIF, and VAT numbers are verified live against the European Commission's VIES system. The footer credits each source.
Which companies show financial figures?
The ones that publish their accounts. Issuers listed on the Malta Stock Exchange file audited annual reports in machine-readable form under the Transparency Directive, and those are read here directly: revenue, profit, assets and equity, each against the period it was reported for. Every other Maltese company files its accounts with the Registry as a document, ordered individually and charged per sheet, so its profile carries no figures. That is a fact about what Malta publishes, not about the company.
How often is the data updated?
The Registry rebuilds its open data file daily, and this site carries a dated snapshot of it — the footer says which day. It is not read live on every search, so a company registered or struck off since that date will not show the change yet.
