Company ID

The registration number the Malta Business Registry assigns on incorporation — a letter prefix and digits, such as C 12345.

The registration number is a Maltese entity's primary identifier. The Malta Business Registry issues it on registration, it never changes, and it is not reissued after a company is struck off.

The letter is part of the number, not a prefix to drop. C is a company, P a partnership en nom collectif, P COMM a partnership en commandite, OC an overseas company's branch, SV a SICAV, SE a European Company and EEIG a European Economic Interest Grouping. C 100 and P 100 are two different entities, so a number quoted without its letter is ambiguous.

The registration number is not a VAT number and neither can be derived from the other. A Maltese VAT number is MT followed by eight digits, issued separately by the Commissioner for Tax and Customs, and a company below the registration threshold has none at all.
