# Overit Malta > Maltese company directory. Search the Malta Business Registry by > company name, registration number or VAT number and get registration > data, board members, VAT status and filed annual reports. Companies we have > processed additionally have a published profile carrying their full financial > history, year by year, built from their filed reports. Operated by Verde > Holding Kft. Available in Maltese and English. ## Status This site is newly launched and its register connection is not live yet. Working today: the VAT check, which validates a Maltese VAT number directly against the European Commission's VIES service. Accounts exist: anyone can sign up, and the dashboard under /app requires being signed in. Not working yet: everything that reads the Malta Business Registry. Company search, company profiles, the directory, the rankings, the people index and the activity pages are all built and rendering their empty states, because no register data has been loaded. They are not broken and they are not placeholders — they are correct pages over an empty dataset. There is no billing and no paid plan; the pricing page describes planned tiers. ## What users can do today - Check whether a Maltese company is registered for VAT, by VAT number. The number is validated against EU VIES in real time. - Validate an IBAN's checksum (ISO 13616 mod-97) in the dashboard, computed in the browser. - Create an account and sign in. - Read guides about checking Maltese companies and about the Maltese company identifiers. ## What the pages will do once the register is connected - Search Maltese companies by name or registration number and browse matching legal entities. - Open a published company profile with registration data and financial history — revenue, profit, assets, equity and liabilities — for every financial year the company has filed a report for. - Browse the directory of published profiles and the rankings built from them. ## Public pages Every page exists in Maltese and English, each at a URL in its own language. Maltese is the root language, so Maltese URLs carry no language prefix. - [https://overit.mt/](https://overit.mt/) and [https://overit.mt/en/](https://overit.mt/en/): homepage. - [https://overit.mt/tfittxija/](https://overit.mt/tfittxija/) and [https://overit.mt/en/search/](https://overit.mt/en/search/): company search. No API key and no authentication on the endpoints below. Responses are edge-cached. Every response is an object with a boolean `ok` field; on failure `ok` is false and `error` carries a short machine-readable code such as `not_found`, `invalid_registry_code`, `invalid_vat_number`, `query_too_short`, `register_not_connected` or `upstream_unavailable`. - `GET https://overit.mt/api/vat/{vat-number}` VAT validation against VIES. Accepts eight digits, written after MT, with an optional `MT` prefix. Returns `vat` ({checked, valid, vatNumber}). `checked: false` means VIES did not answer — which is not the same as the company not being registered. Working today. - `GET https://overit.mt/api/search?q={name-or-registry-code}` Company search. `q` must be at least 2 characters. Currently answers 501 with `error: "register_not_connected"` until the Malta Business Registry feed is in place. - `GET https://overit.mt/api/company/{registry-code}` Live company lookup by 5-digit registration number. Currently answers 501 with `error: "register_not_connected"`. - `GET https://overit.mt/api/companies` The published profiles, as a summary list. Currently empty. - `GET https://overit.mt/api/companies/{registry-code-or-slug}` One published profile in full, including its financial history and, for every figure, which report it came from. The endpoints under /api/auth/ serve the site's own sign-in forms. They are not for third-party use. Note: robots.txt disallows crawling of /api/ to keep automated crawlers off the upstream registers. The endpoints remain publicly callable for direct, purposeful requests. ## Data sources - Reġistru tan-Negozju ta' Malta (Malta Business Registry), kept by Reġistru tan-Negozju ta' Malta (MBR) — the Malta Business Registry, an agency in its own right since 2018 — before that the Registry of Companies sat inside the financial services regulator — at mbr.mt. Registration data: business name, registration number, address, legal form, dates, board members and shareholders. Not connected yet. - id-dikjarazzjoni annwali u l-kontijiet awditjati (annual return and audited financial statements), filed to the Malta Business Registry — NACE Rev. 2 activity, undertaking size, filed reports and the figures inside them. Not connected yet. - MFSA — the Malta Financial Services Authority, which held the company register until 2018 and still licenses and supervises the financial sector. Not connected yet. - VIES (European Commission) — validation of EU VAT numbers. Connected. The VAT check is proxied straight to VIES and nothing is stored. Published profiles will be different: their financial history is extracted from filed reports and stored, so it can be shown year by year and ranked. Every stored figure records the report it came from, and figures we compute from those (margins, year-on-year change) are labelled as calculated. Nothing is estimated or filled in: a figure a report does not state is absent rather than guessed. Overit Malta is not the authoritative source; the registers above are. Values can be null when an upstream register has no record. ## Terminology - registration number — 5-digit Maltese company identifier (numru ta' reġistrazzjoni), assigned when a company is registered. The primary key for a legal entity: it does not change over the company's life. - VAT number — Maltese VAT identification number (numru tal-VAT), eight digits, written after MT. Issued by Kummissarju għat-Taxxa u d-Dwana only to businesses registered as liable for VAT. It cannot be derived from the registration number, nor the registration number from it. - Reġistru tan-Negozju ta' Malta — Malta Business Registry, kept by Reġistru tan-Negozju ta' Malta (MBR) (the Malta Business Registry, an agency in its own right since 2018 — before that the Registry of Companies sat inside the financial services regulator) at mbr.mt. - Kummissarju għat-Taxxa u d-Dwana — the Commissioner for Tax and Customs. - NACE Rev. 2 — klassifikazzjoni tal-attivitajiet ekonomiċi, the Maltese classification of economic activities, derived from NACE. - id-dikjarazzjoni annwali u l-kontijiet awditjati — the annual return and audited financial statements a company files to the Malta Business Registry. The figures on a company profile come from these. - Figures are in EUR unless a report states otherwise. Legal forms, most common first: - Ltd — kumpanija privata b'responsabbiltà limitata, private limited liability company. The most common form. Registration numbers begin with C. - plc — kumpanija pubblika b'responsabbiltà limitata, public limited liability company. - en nom collectif — soċjetà en nom collectif, general partnership. Registration numbers begin with P. - en commandite — soċjetà en commandite, limited partnership. The share-capital variety is a distinct form from the ordinary one, though both are written en commandite. - Overseas company — kumpanija barranija, branch of a company incorporated elsewhere. Registration numbers begin with OC. - SE — Societas Europaea, European company. Note on Maltese corporate income tax: Malta charges company profit at 35%, and the filed accounts show that rate. Under the full imputation system much of it is refunded to shareholders after a dividend is paid — the refund is the shareholder's, not the company's, so it does not appear in the company's own figures at all. A Maltese company's tax charge therefore reads high next to a comparable company elsewhere in this network while the group's effective rate may be far lower. Neither figure is wrong; they are answers to different questions, and a page comparing them across countries has to say which one it is showing. ## Authentication Every page and endpoint listed under "Public pages" and "Public API" above is open: no account, no session, no API key. Accounts exist for the dashboard only. /app and everything beneath it requires being signed in. Signing up is free and gates nothing that is listed above. ## /app — dashboard /app requires a signed-in account. Its screens — /app/companies, /app/people, /app/documents, /app/bank, /app/invoices, /app/monitoring, /app/reports, /app/api, /app/team, /app/settings — are the planned verification dashboard. They carry no sample data. Every counter reads zero and every list shows an empty state, because the account genuinely holds nothing and the register is not connected. The one exception is the IBAN checksum validator on /app/bank, which is real arithmetic and works. All of /app is noindex and disallowed in robots.txt. Do not present the dashboard features these screens describe as currently available. ## Not available To avoid incorrect assumptions: there is currently no company search, no company data, no MCP server, no authenticated or rate-limited API tier, no webhook delivery, no bulk export, no monitoring or alerting product, no document verification, no bank-account ownership verification, no billing and no paid plan. Where the marketing pages describe such features, they are planned rather than shipped. ## Contact office@verdeholding.hu — operated by Verde Holding Kft.
